hello
I am trying to build a model of flow through and around a river (see file)
I built the grid, assign friction coefficient and boundary condition at inflow.
but I get a failure message without any additional explanation
I played with the time step size (0.01 sec to 100 secs) and the cell size (0.5 m to 5 m ) nothing helps
the program blows at the first time step.
is there a way to find out where the problem is ?
thanks

hi jac
Please Check out FAQ below.

If the calculation diverges, it is effective to more increase the mesh size or reduce the time step.
Sorry, but it’s difficult to identify the problem with just the riv file and the information in your question.
I have attached the calculated ipro. please make sure.

hi jac
I may have predicted the reason why you couldn’t calculate it.
It seems like you used “Create grid from cross-section data” to create the grid, but I believe the issue might have been with the position of the river centerline at that time.
Did you select “Where the elevations is smallest in low water way” when importing the riv file? In “Create grid from cross-section data,” the positions of Indexes 2 and 3 of the riv file are automatically set as division points. However, in your riv file, Index 2 is at the lowest position, causing the river centerline and division points to overlap. Consequently, extremely small cells with almost zero width are created, likely causing the divergence in the calculation.

The specifications for the riv file are located here.

To resolve the issue, first place the river centerline in the correct position, then reset the “Grid Creating Condition” and re-add the division points.
Instructions on how to edit the centerline of cross-sectional survey data can be found here.
